Food Vendor FYI

*This page has been provided to you as a courtesy of The Somerville Flea.  It is intended to be a guideline for the process by which one would become a food vendor at The Somerville Flea as well as other markets in Somerville.  Please keep in mind that city and state policies change and The Somerville Flea is not responsible for any incorrect or misinterpreted information on this page.

New food permitting with the City of Somerville

Thank you for you interest in selling food at The Somerville Flea.  We’ve tried to make this page as helpful as possible.  Please see below for the permitting process.  Good luck!

Any food vendor needs to set up an account through the portal below to obtain a permit or license. It's pretty easy to use.  It'll ask for basic business info, contact info, your food plan and copies of servsafe, allergen awareness, etc. All documents can be uploaded with an easy upload function.

Click Temporary Food Permit and go from there.

If you have any questions or concerns, Elise Collins, of The Somerville Health Department would be happy to help you out. They’re goal isn’t to shut down food vendors, but to keep everyone safe.  They are very knowledgable, friendly and open to hearing from food vendors with their questions.

The best times to reach them by phone are:

Mon-Wed 8:00am-10-am and 3:00pm-4:00pm

Thurs 8:00am-10-am and 3:00pm-7:00pm
Fri 8:00am-10-am

The people at the Somerville Health Department are quite friendly and helpful; however, with all of the markets emerging in Somerville they are very busy.  Be sure to give yourself plenty of time for the process.

As a note: The Somerville Health Department, could in fact, come by and perform a health inspection on any vendor at The Somerville Flea if they so choose to.

Other Helpful Tips

You can find a list of acceptable practice here at the Mass.gov site

Last but not least, try to leave your booth space clean.  As food vendors you will create a bit of trash when preparing menu items. Please keep on top of your trash and take your trash with you when you leave.

Thank you,

The Somerville Flea
