Q – TENTS?
A – Tents are required. They will keep you and your stuff out of the elements. And not just rain but sun as well. The sun is by far the most prevalent in the lot. It would be wise to be able to enjoy respite from it under a canopy. The Somerville Flea will not be responsible for any damage to items or injury due to not having a tent canopy. Tent weights are mandatory. No tent will go up with out them. Tents are great and are a good investment. There are tons on the market but this TENT is the best. The market reserves the right to deem tents unsafe and/or insufficient, which will result in immediate take down.
Q – ARE TENT WEIGHTS MANDATORY?
A – Yes, they absolutely are! We require at least 40lbs of weight per leg. No tent goes up without weights. For more information about tent weights please click HERE
Q – ARE THERE THINGS I CAN’T SELL?
A – Yep. A lot of children swing through this market so lets keep it fun and not controversial. Pornography or racist material, weapons like swords or knives etc. A little discretion goes along way here folks. Keep in mind the market managers reserve the right to remove any merchandise that is deemed unsuitable.
Q – WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO BE AT THE MARKET TO SETUP?
A - Be realistic in the time you think it takes to set up. Most spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. We cannot have vendors who arrive 1/2 hour before open setting up among those who have already finished or browsing shoppers.
Q – CAN I ARRIVE OR BREAKDOWN EARLY?
A - Vendors will not be allowed to set up before 7:30am and cannot breakdown before the market closes. If you have an extenuating circumstance please talk to the market manger when you arrive. Management may also deem conditions are such, that early breakdown must occur. Again, this is a case by case basis.
Q – IS THERE VENDOR PARKING?
A – Yes. Again, first come first serve basis. We do have ample parking, but in the event that we are full, vendors must be prepared to find on-street parking. This shouldn’t be too difficult as Somerville has free on-street parking on Sundays city-wide.
Q – IS THERE ELECTRICITY?
A – No. For vendors with electronic items testing them before selling them is the best bet. There is one generator usually available. Ask the market manager to help you to test electronics for customers. Also, offering a guaranteed refund for items that end up not working is the way to go. It’s just good business.
Q – WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?
A – Then it’ll be good that you invested a tent! The Somerville Flea is a rain or shine market. And shoppers show up regardless. Please be prepared by bringing the required set-up materials (tents, tarps, and ponchos, etc ). In the event of a vendor cancellation due to adverse weather, refunds will not be granted. More here
